RivrStyx Canoe Paddle Raffle Ticket
PCPaRC is very excited to present our Spring Recreation Raffle! Buy a ticket today for your chance to win your very own RivrStyx paddle, handcrafted by Jim Snyder. Tickets are $10 each, and only 150 will be sold. Winner will be pulled live on Facebook on the evening of April 27th.
When you hold a wood paddle created by Jim Snyder it’s like holding a small hardwood forest in your hands. There’s Northern White Ash from Maine and Sassafras from Ohio- not to mention some of the finest Basswood in the world in the blades- from Preston County. And the cherry colored blade wood is from a beautiful Black Willow tree that grew along the banks of the Cheat River near Albright, West Virginia! It also has stout Dynel tips and edgings as well as a Dynel sock protecting the shaft from dings and scuffs- making it virtually maintenance free. And to top it off the t-grip is gorgeous Curly Maple from Pennsylvania. The grip hasn’t been permanently attached- so it can be length adjusted for the buyer’s personal preference.
These paddles are hard to get! Jim won’t be taking orders for any until later in 2022. He’s been making them for 47 years and was the first apprentice to master paddle builder Keith Backlund who had more than 50 apprentices. And Jim is a paddler too- so he really knows the feel of a great paddle. He makes his paddles in a shop next to his home on the banks of the Cheat River in Ruthbell, West Virginia- the oldest community in Preston County!
People usually wait about a year to get a paddle from Jim- but this one was ordered a year ago and is available NOW! This is a rare chance to get some of Mother Nature’s strength and beauty in your hands for your next big adventure!
We will email you a picture of your ticket upon purchase. Please follow PCPaRC on Facebook for any updates on the raffle! Any questions please email pcparc.coordinator@gmail.com
**Please note: This item is available for pick-up ONLY. We cannot ship this. We are happy to meet you around Preston County should you win**
